In A Word' reviewed by Sunken

‘AVE A WORD!

sunken

Reviewing the written word comes as easily to me as giving a straight answer to a simple question comes to a politician. It is with some trepidation therefore, that I endeavour to appraise ‘In A Word’, the latest publication by Ms. Andrea Lowne. I’ve heard a lot about this Andrea woman. Some of what I’ve heard is actually quite good. I’ll gloss over the dodgy bits. Her casual approach to mild drugs and free love coupled with an unusual teabag addiction might, after all, detract from an otherwise in-depth review.

From the moment I opened the jiffy bag containing Ms. Lowne’s latest publication I knew that I was in for a treat. I spent the first fifteen minutes sniffing the cover. I love the smell of new books. Ms. Lowne, it would appear, has many writing styles. I was, nonetheless, somewhat mystified by the radically minimalist style of her introduction piece. My bewilderment soon eased however when, after coming down from my sniff-related high, I realised that I had been attempting to read the reverse side of the book’s cover. Blank pages, although somehow enigmatic in their appearance do not, as a rule, make for great reading. Two pieces contained in the book, incidentally, are based on the subject of minimalism. There’s nothing minimal about ‘In A Word’ though. With 102 poems and numerous illustrations I can quite definitely say that the opposite is true.

Hitting the shelves at the recession-busting price of just £4.99, ‘In A Word’ is without doubt the literary bargain of the year. I asked Andrea how she could do it so cheaply. Needless to say, as with most women, my question was completely misconstrued, misunderstood, misinterpreted and… other words pertaining to misjudgment that begin with the letter M.

Spanning the alphabet from A to Z, ‘In A Word’ brings together a collection of poems that can’t fail to entertain. From a philosophical ‘Kant’ to a spotty ‘Penis’ there is something here for everyone. Ahem. If that in itself were not enough to persuade you to purchase then perhaps the whole concept behind the book will. Selflessly, the proceeds from ‘In A Word’ will help fund the various projects currently in progress across the International creative writing website known as UKAuthors. As founder of this site, Andrea has been central to providing writers with a platform upon which to promote their work. Many members have even seen their work published.
Still not convinced? Okay, sod it. On page 94 there’s a picture of Andrea with her tits out. Respect is due.
